What is KIBO?

KIBO is the screen-free robot kit for kids that lets 4- to 7-year-olds create, design, decorate and bring their own robot to life! KIBO is an easy and fun way to bring robotics and coding to your young learners and spark their interest in STEAM.

  • When children code with KIBO they are learning invaluable skills that will lead them on the path for success in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) skills and future careers. As they learn all these skills, they will think it is just play!
  • Based on 20 years of early child development research, this hands-on educational robot engages young students to learn STEAM concepts through play and creative self-expression.
  • STEAM learning with KIBO is fun, imaginative and easy. Your youngest learners will playfully discover these concepts by coding with wooden building blocks, creating sequences, and learning design processes.
  • Used in 55 countries and tested and approved by thousands of children and their caregivers, KIBO has proven efficacy in helping kids learn STEAM, and getting them excited about it!

Imagine and Create with KIBO

Young children learn by doing. KIBO gives your kids the chance to make their ideas physical and tangible—exactly what their young minds and bodies need. And KIBO does all this without requiring screen time from PCs, tablets or smartphones.

KIBO serves as an open platform designed for kids to imagine and create their own robot. Just turn it upside down. See the circuitry? Kids can visibly see that this is the KIBO “brain” and not magic. Just add the wheels with the motors and your KIBO is on the move!

    STEAM Approach

KIBO uses a proven learning methodology, which is backed by researches to have the most impact on kids learning. It is known as STEAM which is full-form of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. Using this education approach as the key learning areas help kids to explore ideas and open their mind to new possibilities.

    Introducing KIBO – STEAM

KIBO was introduced after years in research to find kids a helpful toy to learn interactively without getting bored. So that teacher can have a great time with kids during the classroom session. But primarily that kids develop patience, a new skill-set, become a team player and use their brain to learn and solve interesting problems.

KIBO 21 is a perfect toy for kids aged between 4 – 10 years old to learn more about coding and computing. Kids also get to learn about different kinds of inputs and outputs and develop an understanding of their use cases.

    KIBO Kit Details

KIBO 21 robot kit contains 21 programming blocks, 12 parameter cards, 3 motors, 2 wheels, 3 sensor modules (light, sound and distance), 1 lightbulb module, 1 Expression module, 1 Sound Record and Playback Module, a stage art platform, and a rotating art stage (perfect for making ballerinas, helicopters, carousels, etc).

    How KIBO works?

More about KIBO – Usage Details

KIBO uses an embedded scanner, which is basically a built-in scanner to scan bar codes. As the robot scans any bar code from any of the programming block, the commands of that block are sent back to the robot.

For kids between age 4 to 7, it’s specially crucial to be exposed to longer screen viewing time. Therefore, we have not introduced any touch screens with KIBO to save kids from hurting their eyes.

    AAP Recommendation

American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the same, to save kids from longer screen time at the age of 4 -7 because they are more prone to hurting their eyes.

Teachers – Get ready for an amazing experience with kids.

KIBO use concepts such as repeat blocks, conditional and nesting statements. These are easy to learn concepts for kids and help them to build a greater level of programming understanding.

The kit is bundled with a full spectrum curriculum, which includes detailed KIBO guide and an updated lesson plan as well.
