The Uconnect is really cool - I have been using my Panasonic DECT phone (digital cordless) in the UK with its 300ft range to wander about the house whilst on Skype calls. The thing works very well, with the exception of the voice recognition, which despite my training it for about 20 mins still doesn't work and frankly I can't be bothered to keep working on it. Anyway, it doesn't matter because you can still dial by clicking using the Skype client as normal. It really is excellent and I'm no longer tied to my PC with a headset and mic. I'm going to get one for my parents as well, because using a headset to make a phone call is just beyond them.
Great way to take advantage of VoIP and regular phone services. ![]()

Guide Review - Uconnect USB Telephone Adapter with USB/PSTN Switch
The Uconnect USB Telephone Adapter includes everything (including phone cables) to get you up and running quickly. A neat advantage to this adapter is you can use a regular handset with it or a wireless phone system.
If you already have Skype installed, you just need to plug in the line cord to your wall adapter, connect the telephone cord to your phone and you can start making calls. If you don’t have Skype, it is included on the CD ROM.
The Uconnect Telephone adapter is compact, very sturdy and the USB connector is adjustable. You don’t have to fight to make the lines connect and can take advantage of working in smaller spaces.
Leaving the adapter switch in the USB/PSTN position is what I would recommend for most mobile professionals. This way you can use your phone for regular calls and VoIP calls without worrying about changing settings before each call.
If you plan to use the Uconnect while on the road, and you have a small handset phone that isn’t being used I suggest packing it as well. Even if you plan to use only VoIP while traveling, the regular handset will be more comfortable to use. It isn’t always easy to set up a headset and get the microphone positioned correctly.
Another feature of the Uconnect telephone adapter is that it has a Caller ID function for Skype if you have a phone that can handle this.
The Merconnet Uconnect Telephone Adapter is a handy little gadget to have if you have been avoiding using Skype because you don’t want to use a headset.
